While originally starting as a social movement in 2019, Only7Seconds has quickly grown to become a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization on a mission to end loneliness. Over the past 3 years, we have seen the devastating effects of prolonged loneliness firsthand. However, an increase in research of loneliness and connection continues to show that loneliness can have a profound impact on both mental and physical health. While the pandemic increased an already rising conversation about mental health, loneliness, and the need for human connection, we know this is just the start of the conversation.

Our story so far...
We coined the phrase "Because You Matter" in 2018, as a way to reminded people that they matter. Because loneliness can tell us we don't matter. The "Because you matter" message holds both a reminder and a call to action. It holds a message for YOU, a reminder that YOU MATTER. But it is also a call to action, a message to share with OTHERS around you. “Because you matter", I will: Start an intentional conversation. Pick up the phone and check in on you. Post a sign in my business or yard.
So, if you’ve been seeing a sign or wearing a t-shirt with the Because You Matter message, remember: the loneliness you may feel, doesn’t define you. People do care. Your life matters. You matter.
